Refurbished community hub given new lease of life

A refurbished community hub has been given a new lease of life with local volunteers.

The Powis Community Centre has now reopened following a £500,000 makeover by Aberdeen City Council to create a fit-for-purpose building for residents.

The new management committee, who have now signed a lease on the property, aim to create an ambitious programme of activity for children and young people and adults alike in the area.

Aberdeen City Council Transport and Regeneration spokesman Councillor Ross Grant said: “We are delighted to hand over this newly refurbished building to the Powis Community Centre Management Committee.

“Investment in infrastructure plays a vital part in regenerating our communities, but we also need the dedication of residents from the local area to create true empowerment.

“This new committee is a strong group of people who will no doubt build on the legacy of the previous committee, many of whom volunteered their time for years.

“We look forward to seeing the centre thrive as a valuable community asset under the leadership of such a committed team and we are particularly looking forward to seeing the popular café back up and running.”
