Residents to help shape plans for Torry community facility

Local residents are being invited to help shape plans to bring a dis-used Aberdeen City Council building in Torry back to life as a community facility.

The latest in a series of meetings to engage with the public on the future of the property at 258 North Balnagask Road will be held tomorrow evening (28 June 2018).

Previously run by volunteers to provide youth services, the building has been vacant for more than six years but is set to be revived as a community space.

The King’s Community Foundation is aiming to secure a lease from Aberdeen City Council to allow the property to be re-opened and is committed to working with local people to run a programme of activities.

Cllr Ross Grant, Aberdeen City Council’s spokesperson for transport and regeneration, said: “This is an excellent opportunity for the people of Torry to have their say on what the building could best be used for.

“There has already been support for the creation of a hub that would provide better access to social, health, wellbeing and learning opportunities. This week’s meeting is a chance to explore that in more detail and help to push plans forward.

“It’s vital that decisions on local facilities are driven by the needs of communities and this is a great way of encouraging that involvement early in the process.”

The meeting will take place at 258 North Balnagask Road from 6.30pm.
