Road closures to be extended for several months due to demolition at fire-ravaged Britannia Hotel

Two road closures in the Bucksburn area of Aberdeen are to be extended for several months while the fire-damaged Britannia Hotel is demolished.

An Aberdeen City Council spokeswoman said: “Previous restrictions on Oldmeldrum Road and Malcolm Road are to be extended until 23 December to allow the fire-damaged building to be demolished. This is to ensure public safety is maintained in the area around the site, whilst minimising disruption to motorists and local residents.”

There will be a one-way restriction on Oldmeldrum Road, between its junctions with Station Road and Malcolm Road, with the permitted direction of travel being north-westbound only. Also, Malcolm Road will be one way between its junctions with Oldmeldrum Road and the east boundary of number 12 Malcolm Road. The permitted direction of travel will be south-westbound only. An alternative route for east-bound vehicles is available via Auchmill Road, and Oldmeldrum Road.

There will be no waiting, for any purpose, on either side of Oldmeldrum Road between the south boundary of number 36 Oldmeldrum Road and the south boundary of number 39 Oldmeldrum Road. Also on Malcolm Road between its junction with Oldmeldrum Road and the east boundary of number 12 Malcolm Road.

About 70 firefighters tackled the 9 June blaze at the hotel, which was left partially destroyed afterwards.
