Road to be re-opened beside fire damaged hotel
08 December 2016
A road in Bucksburn area of Aberdeen is to re-opened at midnight tonight after work was carried out to a fire-damaged hotel.
Oldmeldrum Road was closed in June after the blaze at the Britannia Hotel.
Work has been carried out at the former hotel building and after further investigations by a specialist demolition firm, it has been agreed the road can be re-opened.
An Aberdeen City Council spokeswoman said: “The road was closed to ensure public safety and we’re glad to say it can be re-opened after a site inspection following work that was carried out.”
The closure to Malcolm Road has been extended to allow for further demolition to the building. This is to ensure public safety is maintained in the area around the site, whilst minimising disruption to motorists and local residents.
About 70 firefighters tackled the 9 June blaze at the hotel, which was left partially destroyed afterwards.
