Royal wedding brings extended hours for Aberdeen’s licensed premises
23 April 2018
The Royal wedding on 19 May will be toasted in Aberdeen as licensed premises are offered the opportunity to remain open for an extra hour for the occasion.
The decision to grant the extension was made by the Aberdeen City Licensing Board earlier this year as preparations for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s big day continue.
It applies to all on consumption premises (with the exception of casinos) whose standard licensed hour adhere to the 14-hour maximum. The general extension will allow premises to extend their normal closing time by one hour and to exceed the usual 14-hour maximum on the Saturday evening into the early hours of Sunday.
Cllr Marie Boulton, Convener of the Aberdeen City Licensing Board, said: “Members were pleased to be able to grant the general extension in recognition of the interest there will be in the Royal wedding and the celebrations taking place across Britain. There is no obligation on licence holders to use the extension but we expect many will.”
