Service held today for people affected by past practices at Aberdeen Crematorium
06 November 2016
A service attended by about 70 people was held this afternoon (Sunday 6 November) for people affected by past practices relating to baby ashes at Aberdeen Crematorium.
The service was hosted by Aberdeen Churches Together at the Kirk of St Nicholas in the city centre.
The service, led by Rev Hugh Wallace, involved readings, prayers, singing from the choral group from St Andrew’s Episcopal Church Choir, an opportunity to light a candle in a meditation led by Rev Stephen Taylor, and a reflection given by Rev Dr John McNeill. The service was concluded with a Celtic blessing.
Rev Wallace said: "We are committed to supporting all those affected and the service was an important part of that. We welcomed all who wished to take part but recognise everyone has their own needs at this sad time and our work with the families will continue.
“We appreciated that not everyone would feel that the service would be the best place for them today, so we are still available at any time for those who may wish to contact us."
Aberdeen Churches Together was supported by Aberdeen City Council in inviting parents and other family members.
Aberdeen City Council Chief Executive Angela Scott, who spoke at the service, attended along with the Lord Provost of Aberdeen George Adam.
