Spotlight on harbour expansion opportunities for local businesses

26 January 2017

Specialists in a variety of specific disciplines are being invited to an event designed to help them play a part in the £350 million expansion of Aberdeen Harbour.

Aberdeen City Council will host a Meet the Buyer event on behalf of Dragados, the construction group which will lead the harbour development, at the Town House on Wednesday (1 February).

The event will be used to showcase the opportunities for local businesses as the expansion plans progress. The project will create new harbour facilities and associated infrastructure at Nigg Bay, to the south of the existing dock.

Dragados will make a presentation on the scope of the work being undertaken and outline opportunities to join its supply chain lists. A question and answer session, as well as the option of one-to-one meetings with some of the company’s category managers, will also be included on Wednesday’s programme.

The event will have a focus on opportunities for businesses in catering, fencing, civil engineering and enivornmental services such as waste and recycling.

Aberdeen City Council transport and regeneration spokesman Councillor Ross Grant said: “The Aberdeen Harbour expansion will have a significant role to play in the city’s future, supporting the existing role as a global energy hub and encouraging diversification and expansion in areas such as tourism.

“Once completed the project will be vital to the economic aims for the region – but it will also have an immediate impact, with the construction phase creating work for the local supply chain and in turn stimulating employment.

“The forthcoming Meet the Buyer event presents a chance for those contractors interested in supporting the project to introduce themselves to Dragados and to find out more about the requirements now and further down the line.”
