St Machar pupils set to rock the aisles with 90s-based musical

St Machar Academy pupils and staff are all ready to Turn Back Time with 90s chart topping music from the likes of Cher, Backstreet Boys and the Spice Girls by performing in nostalgic musical, it was announced today (Friday 22 February).

The talented ensemble will be performing in Popstars the 90’s Musical in the school hall on Wednesday 27, Thursday 28 February and Friday 1 March.

The musical is about a love-triangle with a pop talent show at the centre of things as a girl band takes on a boy band for the Grand Prize. Fun and hilarity, and more than a few vintage pop classics are guaranteed along the way!

The musical is being performed under licence from the creators Music Theatre International and as well as featuring an eight-piece band, sound will be provided by Granite City Events.

Councillor John Wheeler, Education Operational Convener met the cast today at a dress rehearsal and was impressed by what he saw: “We’ve had some amazing musical achievements at our schools already this year and this promises to be another one!

“Everyone at St Machar Academy is really looking forward to the shows and I’m sure the audiences will have as much fun as the performers who deserve packed houses for the effort they have put in”.

St Machar Academy music teacher, Sally Mcpherson is the producer and musical director of the show and is looking forward to the big nights. She said: “This is a brilliant show with loads of classic songs from the 90’s and a lot of laughs, that will appeal to an audience of all ages.

“Since we started rehearsing in September the school has been taken over by 90’s fever with the sounds of Backstreet Boys and Spice Girls reverberating around the corridors. We have had so much fun rehearsing it and the pupils and staff are now ready to bring their energy and enthusiasm to the St Machar stage.

“We can guarantee a fantastic evening which will leave you with a smile on your face, so please come along and support our pupils.”

Tickets for the shows are available to the public and can be purchased at the school reception in advance or at the door on the night.
