Thank you for election staff

08 May 2021

Aberdeen City Council’s Returning Officer today thanked staff, candidates, election agents and all those connected for their help in delivering the election under Covid-19 restrictions.

Three Aberdeen constituency MSPs and seven regional list MSPs were voted in after the 2021 Scottish Parliament elections with polling day on Thursday and two days of counting at P&J Live (TECA).

More than 700 people were involved in supporting the Aberdeen City election, including polling staff at the city’s 79 polling places and 189 polling stations, transportation of ballot boxes to P&J Live on Thursday evening, and election and venue staff at the count.

Aberdeen City Council’s Returning Officer Fraser Bell said: “Planning for the delivery of the Scottish Parliament election has been underway for many months. I would like to thank all staff and partners for their care, diligence, and professionalism throughout this period. In particular, I would like to thank my Depute Returning Officers for their hard work and commitment that ensured the successful delivery of the event.

The numbers of election agents and other guests at the count had to be reduced due to Covid-19 physical distancing rules. I would like to thank all along with the candidates for their understanding in respect of the changes.

“I’d also like to thank Aberdeenshire Council’s Returning Officer and his election team at Aberdeenshire Council. Our respective teams have worked well together to ensure the two counts went smoothly at the same venue.

“Covid-19 has meant a significant increase in procedures and logistical factors to be addressed and so I thank everyone for their patience and assistance in ensuring a major election was delivered during these challenging times.”
