Trade Mission to Arctic Norway

16 May 2016

Aberdeen City Council, with the support of Storvik & Co, are organising a four – centre mission to Northern Norway from 20 – 24th June this summer and are inviting local companies to join the International Trade team on this Trade Mission.

Taking in Kirkenes, Hammerfest, Narvik and Sandnessjoen; participating in this trade mission will provide delegates with an opportunity to develop business links, build strategic relationships, create partnerships and expand into a frontier region. .

Norway is a key target market for the city, and the region as a whole. Arctic Europe, including Northern Norway and the Murmansk region, Russia, is a growing frontier region for Oil & Gas exploration and production, with 25% of the world’s undiscovered petroleum resources predicted to be in the Arctic. New exploration acreage has opened up in Norway with the 23rd licencing round, which is offering 57 frontier blocks, of which 34 are in the new arctic province in the South-eastern Barents Sea.

Despite the current industry climate, there is a great deal of interest for oil and gas exploration in these new unlocked areas. The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate is currently reviewing all licensing applications with the Ministry of Petroleum and Energy awarding new licenses before the summer.

A number of Aberdeen companies currently take advantage of the business opportunities in Northern Norway but Aberdeen City Council recognises that some firms need assistance to navigate new international markets. This trade mission, which carries no management fee, represents a great opportunity for companies and organisations interested in engaging in business with Arctic Norway.

Your company can be part of this business programme and benefit from gaining an insight into the opportunities this market has to offer by participating in pre-arranged group meetings and site visits, meeting potential customers, and accessing a wide range of local expertise.

If you are interested in participating in, or wish to find out more information, on the trade mission, please do not hesitate to contact Kathryn McFarlane, on Kathryn McFarlane on 01224 523510 or kmcfarlane@aberdeencity.gov.uk

We invite all organisations to submit their application to join the trade mission by 27th May 2016. A limited number of travel grants will be available.
