Traffic restrictions for Broad Street

A temporary traffic order is to take place on Aberdeen's Broad Street restricting the north-bound road to all traffic apart from buses and emergency vehicles from 18 October 2015.

The restrictions are due to be in place for 18 months. There are no restrictions to southbound vehicles.

Aberdeen City Council agreed the terms of the order today with Morgan Sindall, a sub-contractor for Muse Developments Ltd, and will affect Broad Street between Queen Street and Upperkirkgate.

Roadworks associated with the restrictions will start on 18 October by Hunter Construction for approximately one week – these will require the existing bus stop (opposite Marischal College) to be relocated to a temporary stop outside the Illicit Still bar.

The 18-month traffic restriction order has been put in place as the site of the Marischal Square development is to be extended.

Aberdeen City Council Communities, Housing and Infrastructure convener Councillor Neil Cooney said: "We appreciate that these restrictions will inconvenience motorists driving through Aberdeen, but we would ask drivers to show patience while the work is carried out.

"The Marischal Square development constitutes a significant investment of more than £100million in Aberdeen city centre and will provide high quality office space in addition to the substantial leisure and hotel offering.

"We believe the project will act as a catalyst for further regeneration of the east end of the city centre and forms a key part of our City Centre Masterplan proposals to revitalise the heart of Aberdeen."

Aberdeen City Council is arranging for variable message signs to be installed at key sites throughout the city centre as soon as possible to let road users know about the restrictions.
Morgan Sindall will be carrying out a letter drop to affected properties and businesses in the area to let them know about the order.
