Travel guidance as the Tour Series comes to town

25 May 2017

Thousands of people are expected to descend to the heart of Aberdeen on Thursday 25 May to celebrate The Tour Series and all things cycling.

As the city gears up for a full programme of activities, including the men’s elite race at 7.30pm, the 1.2km route will see the centre of Aberdeen transformed, turning the city centre into a race circuit for the likes of defending champions JLT Condor, 2014 victors Madison Genesis and the returning ONE Pro Cycling.

In addition to the elite race, Scottish Cycling will host a range of support races between 1.00pm and 6.00pm on a revised version of the circuit which takes in Belmont Street and Little Belmont Street.

There will be live commentary throughout the races to keep spectators up to speed with all the action.

Due to both amateur and elite athletes weaving around a challenging combination of cobbled streets and tight turns in the city centre, road closures will be in place to ensure safe delivery of the event. There will also be a number of no parking restrictions around the route, therefore we advise all spectators to check travel routes prior to setting out.

For those driving in to town the Bon Accord Centre is offering free parking for the event. Visitors to the city centre looking to utilise the free parking offer should note that access into the Harriet Street car park is not available from 5.45pm to allow for final set up of the men’s elite race. Access to Loch Street entrance remains unaffected.

Craig Stevenson, centre manager, said: “We’re delighted to be playing a part in welcoming the Tour Series to the city centre. This is a fantastic and energetic event that is a real positive for Aberdeen and its residents.

"Offering free parking at Bon Accord is a way to ensure that people can enjoy and get involved with the cycling event as it comes to the north east for the first time. We have been working closely with the council to ensure the smooth operation of this, and look forward to welcoming thousands of new visitors to the city centre.”

In addition to the races, you can also enjoy cycling activities, historic bike displays and meet our local cycling clubs on Union Terrace or at the Cycling Activity Village in Union Terrace Gardens.

The Tour Series is being brought to the city as part of the wider Aberdeen 365 Events Strategy, a City Centre Masterplan initiative.
