Tribute to Jim Wyness former Lord Provost of Aberdeen

Aberdeen City Council has express its condolences to the family of Jim Wyness following the death of the former Lord Provost.

The Lord Provost of Aberdeen Barney Crockett said: "Jim was a wonderful person, who was dedicated to his family and the City of Aberdeen.

"As a local councillor and as Lord Provost he was held in high regard by all at the council - his peers, staff and political opponents. He was a proud Aberdonian, whose interest in the city’s history and heritage never waned.

"As a former Lord Provost Jim gave me great words of encouragement and support when I became Lord Provost for which I will always be grateful.

"My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends at this sad time."

Jim Wyness (85) was Lord Provost of Aberdeen between 1992-1996. He was the Lord Provost when Mikhail Gorbachev, former President of the Soviet Union received the Freedom on Aberdeen on 06 December 1993.
