Union Terrace Gardens to close for Celebrate Aberdeen and Great Aberdeen Run and set-up

23 August 2017

Union Terrace Gardens will be closed to the public in the lead up to Celebrate Aberdeen and the inaugural Simplyhealth Great Aberdeen Run

The gardens will close at 7.00am on Friday 25 August to allow for the set-up of Celebrate Aberdeen on Saturday 26 August and the Simplyhealth Great Aberdeen Run on Sunday 27 August.

All gates leading to the gardens will be closed off until 8.00am on Tuesday 29 August.

Signage to this effect is displayed on entrance points and other key areas within the park.

We look forward to welcoming the public for Celebrate Aberdeen and the Simplyhealth Great Aberdeen Run at the following times:

Saturday 26 August: 12.30am – 5.00pm

Sunday 27 August: 8.00am – 3.30pm

The park will be closed on Monday 28 August to allow for the dismantling of the weekend’s events and will reopen to the public on Tuesday 29 August at 8.00am.

The weekend of events will launch on Saturday 26 August with Celebrate Aberdeen – a popular event celebrating the third sector in Aberdeen, featuring a parade, as well as a host of music performances to showcase local talent across the weekend.

Sunday 27 August will see Union Terrace Gardens transform into the run village for the inaugural Simplyhealth Great Aberdeen Run. The village, open to runners and members of the public from 8am, will feature live music performances, charity stalls and more.

The weekend of festivities is the latest in a series of collaborative cultural events for Aberdeen City Council, supported by the Aberdeen 365 event strategy as a core project of the City Centre Masterplan.

Through working with partner organisations such as Celebrate Aberdeen, the Great Run Company, VisitAberdeenshire, Aberdeen & Grampian Chamber of Commerce and Aberdeen Inspired, the Council is aiming to strengthen Aberdeen’s reputation as a destination for large scale events to support the city’s economic strategy.
