Union Terrace Gardens to close for SPECTRA 2018 set-up

Union Terrace Gardens will be closed to the public in the lead up to SPECTRA 2018, Aberdeen’s festival of light.

The gardens will close at 9am on Friday (2 February) until 5pm on Wednesday 14 February to allow international and national artists to install audio-visual art for the four day festival.

The gates leading to the gardens from Denburn Viaduct, opposite His Majesty Theatre, will also be closed off until Wednesday 14 February.

Signage will be displayed on entrance points and other key areas within the park and a letter has been sent to businesses and residents in the local area.

During SPECTRA, Union Terrace Gardens, and the gates leading to the gardens from Denburn Viaduct, will only be open during festival opening hours: Thursday 8 – Sunday 11 February, 6.00-9.30pm.

The slip road from Rosemount Viaduct to Union Terrace will also be closed on Thursday 8 – Sunday 11 February from 6.00pm-10.30pm, to protect public safety when viewing the installation at His Majesty’s Theatre.

Organised by Aberdeen City Council, the four-day free event invites audiences to engage with playful, accessible and high quality performances, spaces and works of art using light, sound and interactive experiences.
