Views sought on the city’s Food Growing Strategy

07 February 2018

Aberdeen City Council is asking local people for their views on the city’s Food Growing Strategy.

An online survey will help inform a number of food growing initiatives in the city including the development of physical food growing spaces in regeneration areas in conjunction with the Community Food Initiative North East.

All local authorities in Scotland are required to form a strategy under the Community Empowerment Act 2015 and Aberdeen City Council is currently working with Greenspace Scotland to develop the initial draft.

Councillor Yvonne Allan, Convener of Communities, Housing and Infrastructure, said: “There a number benefits of having a local food growing strategy in place not least of which are having accessible fresh produce and reducing our carbon footprint and our reliance on food brought in from elsewhere.

“I would encourage everyone who has an interest in this topic to take part in the survey and help shape our strategy.”

The survey, which is open until 28 February and takes about five minutes to complete, can be found at:

The strategy, which will developed over the next year, will be available for public consultation as part of the council’s Strategic Environmental Assessment.
