Where to get food caddy liners from

23 May 2019

Free food caddy liners are available in new locations around the city as they are no longer going to be posted to residents.

The new locations, which are in addition to existing places such as libraries and ACC customer access points, ranging from a city centre cafe to a multi-cultural centre.

Residents will be able to order bioiners online up until 31 May and, from 1 June onwards, residents will only be able to collect them from distribution points across the city. The new distribution points include Inchgarth Community Centre, Ferryhill Community Centre, Books and Beans Café in Belmont Street, CFINE at 2-4 Poynernook Road, the Multi Cultural Centre at 472 George Street, and the home library service based at Airyhall Library.

Food caddy liners are already available from Marischal College Customer Service Centre, Kincorth Customer Access Point, Mastrick Customer Access Point, Woodside Customer Access Point, libraries, Altens East Recycling, Resource and Recovery Facility, and most community centres and learning centres.

The move follows on from a decision at the Budget meeting of the Full Council on March 5 to save £12,000

The free 7litre food caddy liners are for domestic use only and are made of corn starch and will biodegrade in an industrial composting facility, so are not suitable for home composting.

People are reminded they should not add hot foods or liquids to the caddy as this can break down the bags quicker. Food caddy liners are for food use only and are not suitable as dog waste bags.

At the distribution points, residents will get one roll at a time, and a roll contains 26 liners and should last three to six months if using one to two bags per week.

More information and how to contact the City Council with any waste inquiry is available from the website https://www.aberdeencity.gov.uk/services/bins-and-recycling.
