Winter Wonderland fun at Hazlehead Park on Sunday

14 December 2018
An afternoon of free festive fun is promised at Hazlehead Park on Sunday with a visit from Santa and his reindeer, live music, and an array of craft stalls.
The Winter Wonderland event is being held near the Park Café and starts at 12pm and finishes at 2.30pm. Entry to Pets’ Corner is also free on the day.
Entertainment will be provided by Aberdeen Rock Choir, Hazlehead School Choir, and Cairngorm Reindeer. This event is free to attend but donations to Friends of Hazlehead group, which makes significant improvements the park through fundraising and by holding community activities, are welcome.
There will be an additional group playing festive tunes this year - the Strathspey Reel Society – and other merry musical treats include The Aberdeen City Council Choir and the traditional Santa sing-a-long during the Santa Parade.
Accompanying Santa in the sleigh this year are youngsters from the Archie Foundation and Charlie’s House.
Aberdeen City Council operational delivery convener Councillor John Wheeler said: “Hazlehead Park is a special green space in Aberdeen as it’s a Red Squirrel Conservation area, is our Royal park through King of Scots Robert The Bruce and Mary, Queen of Scots, and is also the largest park in the city at 180 hectares.
“We are delighted Santa and his reindeer are going to make an appearance at this special park again this year in the middle of their busy schedule in the next 10 days and we’d encourage big and little kids alike to come and see them.”
Friends of Hazlehead chairman Donald Shaw said: “We love putting on the Winter Wonderland as you just have to see the joy on the youngster’s faces to see how much they enjoy it.
“We want to encourage people to come and see beautiful Hazlehead Park at all times of the year as it has a range of exciting family-friendly facilities including playparks, the café, Pets’ Corner and events such as the Winter Wonderland.
“Everyone is welcome to come along and enjoy the festive fun.”
