Year of Young People Creative Funding receives terrific response

Young people in Aberdeen have given a great response to Aberdeen City Council’s £100,000 Year of Young People Creative Funding it was announced today (Monday 23 April).
A total of 30 applications were received by yesterday’s deadline, with 21 of these coming through organisations and nine from individuals aged between 16 and 25.
Councillor Lesley Dunbar, Aberdeen City Council’s Educational Operational Delivery Vice-Convener, said: “I am absolutely delighted to say we have had a terrific response to our £100,000 Year of Young People Creative Funding.
“The funding offer really has captured the imagination. We are now firmly looking forward to going through the applications with the panel of Young People who will be taking the decisions and making our creative young people's dreams a reality.”
The funding initiative offered the opportunity for individuals aged 16 – 25, who live in Aberdeen, to apply for up to £2000, while not-for-profit organisations and community groups working with young people could request up to £10,000. The funding aims to enrich the lives of Aberdeen’s young people by celebrating their achievements, valuing their contributions to communities, and creating new opportunities for them to shine. It creates an opportunity for young people to lead on the development and management of creative projects, in addition to increasing participation.
