Statutory Consultation with the Local Community under Part 8 of the Community Empowerment (Scotland) Act 2015 for the Disposal of Common Good Land – Site 16 Lang Stracht.
Site 16, shown in red on the site plan below, was purchased by Aberdeen City circa 1946, and was previously leased by the Council on a 99 year lease as a printworks. The tenant renounced their lease several years ago and subsequently the buildings on site were demolished in 2023. The cleared site accessed via Whitemyres Avenue, extends to circa 2.58 acres, and sits adjacent to the Lang Stracht.
The site forms part of a larger parcel of common good land which is zoned as Business and Industrial Land. With neighbouring uses comprising of a supermarket, car showrooms / sales and a data centre.
The Council’s Proposal
The Finance & Resources Committee at its meeting on 7 August 2024 noted that the site is recognised by the Council as common good property and agreed that officers should proceed with a statutory eight week community consultation on a proposal to dispose of the Property by way of an outright sale or a long term ground lease.
The law requires that any net proceeds from the disposal (including lease) of common good property must go to the appropriate Common Good Fund.
As noted above the Council plans to place the Site on the market for disposal either by outright sale or via a long term lease. At this stage it is unknown what the outcome of the marketing will achieve or what proposals for the site will be received, but the net proceeds received from the disposal will be received by the Common Good Account.
