The Family Time Hub

The Family Time Hub is housed within the Quarry Centre, in the Northfield area of Aberdeen. We facilitate family time for children and their parents when those children have been removed from parental care, helping parents develop their ability to meet their child’s needs. Having resources to encourage and support engagement and interaction is a big part of this. All of our families have social work involvement.

For their family time, families are allocated their own room within the hub. Each room has a kitchen area to prepare meals and a sitting area with sofas, a dining table and chairs, and space to play. Four of the five rooms also have their own bathroom, a large toy cupboard, and a patio door with access to the garden area. Parents are provided with a storage box to keep at the hub and to fill with baby equipment and toys etc for their own personal use. The hub will also provide items for the family to keep in this box if needed. The main reception area and hub cupboards house further shared resources for families to choose from, to meet children’s care needs and to offer play opportunities during their family time.

  • We work in partnership with parents / birth family and child’s social worker to compile a Family Time Agreement that sets out clear expectations of both parents / birth families and family time service workers during contact.
  • Observe family time (supported and fully supervised) – make written record of observations.
  • Undertake assessment of family time which contributes to wider social work assessment and Child’s Plan.
  • Offer practical and emotional support to parents / birth family and children.
  • Provide regular feedback to parents / birth family and children about the progress of family time.
  • Review family time on a regular basis and contribute to decision making forums including Child Protection Planning Meetings, Looked After reviews and Children’s Hearings.

You would only come to the Family Time Hub if the child you care for has been referred by the social work service.
