Short Break Fostering
Our short break foster carers provide short periods of care for our children spanning from an overnight to a few weeks over holiday periods. They are usually planned and on-going so you can have the opportunity to build relationships with children and young people, with their families or with their full time carers.
Interim Fostering
Interim foster carers provide an important role in the lives of children. This type of fostering can last from a couple of days to however long it takes to find the right permanent family for a child, whether this be a return to their family or a kinship placement, adoption or permanent fostering. As an interim foster carer you will have a role in providing care to any child placed with you, working with birth families and also other people who are involved in the lives of the child.
Permanent Fostering
Permanent foster care provides children with a stable and supportive family home where they can live until they can move onto independence. We would hope that every child could remain with their birth families but when that is not possible our permanent carers play a vital role in supporting children reach their potential.
Private Fostering
Private fostering is the term used when a child or young person (under 16) is cared for by an adult who is not a close relative, for a period of more than 28 days. This is different from public fostering as it is normally arranged privately between the child's parent and the carer. Both private foster carers and parents are required to notify us before such an arrangement begins so that we can ensure that the best interests of the child are taken into account.
Continuing Care
In some cases, long term foster placements maybe extended beyond the age of 18. Continuing care takes children through to the age of 21, ensuring a more seamless and supported transition to adulthood.
Unaccompanied young people seeking sanctuary
Occasionally we have young people who arrive in Aberdeen on their own from overseas seeking sanctuary for example unaccompanied asylum seekers. As a foster carer you would be offering them safety from the trauma within their own country and recovery from the journey to the UK helping them integrate into the community.
