Aberdonians are being encouraged to dust off their hidden treasures and bring them along to the city’s Art Gallery to be valued free of charge by experts from auctioneers Lyon & Turnbull this weekend (Saturday 26 April).
Established in 1826, and headquartered in Edinburgh, Lyon & Turnbull is one of the UK’s longest-established fine art and antiques auction houses. Specialists from across Lyon and Turnbull’s departments will be on hand throughout the day to value and provide advice on a wide variety of hand-carry items including silver, jewellery, books, Asian works of art, ceramics, and paintings.
Attendance is free of charge but donations are welcome to support the work of Aberdeen Archives, Gallery & Museums.
Ahead of the valuation day, Ruth Davis, Head of Jewellery for Lyon & Turnbull in Scotland, will be giving a talk at 7pm on Friday 25 April in the Art Gallery’s Cowdray Hall. Ruth’s talk will explore the fascinating history of pearls and how the Scottish pearl has secured its spot as a timeless favourite in our jewellery boxes.
To coincide with Ruth’s talk and the valuation day, a small selection of exquisite pearl and mother-of-pearl items from the collection will be on display in the Gallery’s Remembrance Hall, including a 9ct gold, heart-shaped citrine and pearl pendant with coronet made by Aberdeen’s Jamieson and Carry jewellers, dating from 1975.
