Aberdeen City Council has re-entered a three-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Colombian City of Barranquilla it was announced today (Monday 28 February).
The updated MoU recognises the importance of continuing cooperation between Aberdeen and Barranquilla as key strategic partners around the development of the Energy sector in each city and the economic growth that brings to both cities.
The primary focus will be on the energy transition with a priority action to transfer experience, best practice, information and resources to help achieve the aim of increasing investment and productivity in this sector to the benefit of both Barranquilla and Aberdeen.
The previous three-year MoU, signed in 2017, saw Aberdeen assist Barranquilla with their successful application to join the World Energy Cities Partnership (WECP) and assisted with relationship building between Aberdeen and Barranquilla’s business community.
Councillor John Reynolds, Aberdeen City Council’s International Business Development spokesperson said: “I am delighted to sign this important Memorandum of Understanding with the City of Barranquilla on behalf of the City of Aberdeen.
“We have a well-established partnership with Barranquilla which has enhanced our city’s reputation as a global energy hub and attracted investment, productivity and innovation, particularly around renewable energies where we are recognised as a pioneering region.
“Aberdeen currently holds the Presidency of the World Energies Cities Partnership (WECP) through the Lord Provost and this MoU will continue to aid collaboration between Aberdeen and Barranquilla on energy transition through WECP strategic projects.”
The signatory cities will review the impact of the MoU in September 2024.
