Aberdeen City Libraries’ summer reading challenge returns this week and the city’s readers are being asked to help Library Bear travel the Globe and home again before the end of the Summer as part of Aberdeen Reads: The World Tour!
Running from Saturday 25 June until Saturday 27 August, the challenge is open to people of all ages, either as individuals or as a group, with family and friends encouraged to keep each other reading this summer.
For every book read or challenge completed, Library Bear will earn twenty ‘Bear Miles’ which will see him travel around the Globe. The aim is to have Library Bear travel to a variety of destinations around the world as chosen by pupils from schools involved in the ReadMore Project.
Everyone who takes part in the challenge will be entered into a prize draw. There will also be additional prize draws for those who help Library Bear travel the furthest.
Councillor Martin Greig, Aberdeen City Council’s Education Operational Delivery Convener, said: “The Aberdeen Reads activity is an excellent opportunity to encourage readers of all ages to get into books this summer
“Library Bear enjoyed his Great Staycation last summer. It's now a good time for even more adventures with reading. Books can inspire and inform us on exciting journeys of exploration. Aberdeen Reads will take us to wonderful destinations.”
Library Bear’s progress can be followed on Aberdeen City Libraries’ website and social media throughout the summer. The website will also have bonus activities, challenges and reading suggestions.
The challenge card can be downloaded from the website or collected at any Aberdeen City Library to record progress. Participants can also share their challenges or what they have been reading online with the hashtag #AberdeenReads. Anyone who is not yet a library member can still join online.
In addition, between July and August, every library will be hosting a special free Storytime & Craft session for children aged 4-11 years old. Details of dates, times and locations are available on the website.
