The Lord Provost of Aberdeen Dr David Cameron in his role as The Queen’s Lord-Lieutenant has issued the following statement on the news of Her Majesty’s death today [September 8, 2022].
Lord-Lieutenant David Cameron said: “It was with great sadness that I learned of the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
“Her Majesty’s reign was a source of constant stability in a world of rapid change and the impact of her passing will be deeply felt across our city.
“Aberdeen has been very fortunate to have had such a close bond with The Queen and we fondly remember Her Majesty’s many visits to the city and the warm, generous spirit which was always so forthcoming to those lucky enough to meet her.
“Her Majesty’s life was underpinned by faithful commitment to duty, and unswerving devotion to this country and its people. In remembering The Queen’s extraordinary life, we should all take time to pause and reflect on our own lives, our own personal values and our own duty to society.
“Whilst this is a time of great public sorrow, it is also a time of immense personal grief for The Queen’s family who have lost a beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother. My thoughts are with all members of the Royal Family at this very sad time, and I have written to His Majesty The King expressing the deepest sympathies of the whole city.”
Councillor Alex Nicoll, Co-Leader of Aberdeen City Council, said: “On behalf of Aberdeen City Council and the City of Aberdeen, I offer my heartfelt sympathy to the Royal Family over the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth. We have lost a Monarch who had strong and enduring connections with the North East and was in many ways a member of our own community.”
Councillor Ian Yuill, Co-Leader of Aberdeen City Council, said: “The North East and its people were dear to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth throughout her life. The North East was one of the few places she could truly relax. I know I speak for Aberdeen citizens in extending my condolences to the Royal Family at this difficult time.”
Angela Scott, Chief Executive, Aberdeen City Council said: “On behalf of Aberdeen City Council, I would like to express my deepest sympathy on hearing of the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
“The Queen dedicated her life to the people of the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth throughout her reign and during that time visited Aberdeen on many occasions.
“I am sure many families in Aberdeen will be reminiscing over the coming weeks about events such as Her Majesty’s Silver, Golden and Diamond Jubilees, or recalling seeing The Queen when she was in our city.
“The Queen had a close and warm association with the North-east of Scotland, and its people with her.”
