Aberdeen Lads Club and Cornerstone have received donations from the Lord Provost’s Charitable Trust to assist them with their projects in Aberdeen.
The Lord Provost’s Charitable Trust is an independent fund, set up to support registered charities who operate and undertake charitable work within Aberdeen city.
Aberdeen Lads Club are receiving £8000 to help fund a project aimed at creating a safe play surface for the Little Learners Nursery it operates within the Tillydrone Campus.
Social care charity Cornerstone, which was established in the north-east of Scotland, are receiving £3500. The donation will support vital work undertaken to provide care for its Aberdeen service users.
Aberdeen Lord Provost, Dr David Cameron said: “I am delighted that the Lord Provost Charitable Trust is donating these much-needed funds to two wonderful local charities.
“Both Aberdeen Lads Club and Cornerstone provide vital services to individuals and communities across our city, often providing a lifeline support to many. It is so important, particularly during the current cost-of-living crisis, that charities are supported whenever possible so they can continue to undertake their unvaluable work.”
Angie Johnston, manager, Aberdeen Lads Club Community Project, said: “Outdoor play is so important for early years development as it can lead to better physical and mental health, improved sleep, and greater social and emotional learning. It also helps children develop their gross motor skills, while building essential life-skills such as problem-solving, resilience and communication skills.
“We’re therefore incredibly grateful to the Lord Provost’s Charitable Trust for its generous donation. It will go a long way towards helping us lay artificial grass as part of our Little Learners Nursery, located within the Tillydrone Community Campus.
“With the weather being as it is, the existing grassy area can become muddy and messy fairly quickly. The fact we’ll have something that means the children can play outside all year, which is also easy to maintain, is fantastic.”
Cornerstone Fundraising Lead, Darren Campbell-Pike said: “Cornerstone was delighted to receive this donation from the Lord Provost’s Charitable Trust which has done so much to support charities throughout Aberdeen.
“This donation will be used to benefit people with learning disabilities, autism and complex care needs that Cornerstone support across the Granite City, helping them to live the best life possible.”
