City students hit the high notes as they move on to prestigious musical pathways

 

Three S6 pupils at Aberdeen City Music School have been accepted for places at some of the UK’s most prestigious institutions for further music study, it was announced today (Wednesday 16 February).

 

17-year-olds Natalia Kurpanik and Rebecca West are both going to London where Natalia will study flute performance at Trinity Laban Conservatoire and Rebecca will study Voice at The Royal College of Music. Meanwhile, Lacey Dunk, also 17, is heading to Glasgow Academy of Musical Theatre. 

 

Aberdeen City Council’s Education Operational Delivery Convener, Councillor M Tauqeer Malik, said: “My warmest congratulations to the pupils who are a credit to themselves, their families and the school.

 

“Year after year, Aberdeen City Music School produces students who go on to further their studies at some of the most prestigious academies in Europe and even with the huge challenges presented by the Covid pandemic this year has been no different.

 

“The way the Aberdeen City Music School and indeed the wider Education team and pupils across the city have risen to the challenge through dedication and innovation is remarkable”..    

 

The Director of Aberdeen City Music School, Sonia Scaife, said of her students: “They have worked so hard to get where they are and are fantastic role models to the younger students in the school. I am very proud of their achievements”.

 

Aberdeen City Music School accepts talented musicians or musician with great potential from all over Scotland. They recently returned to live performance, following the relaxation of lockdown measures, at the Music Hall for their Annual concert.
