A consultation into how Aberdeen’s library service can best meet the needs of those living in the city will be taking place this year.
The Communities, Housing and Public Protection Committee today (Thursday 6 July) agreed that engagement and consultation should be carried out to ensure that the design of future library provisions is sustainable and responsive to the evolving needs of communities.
The findings will be brought to Committee during the 2023/24 financial year and will outline the options to plan and vision for Aberdeen’s future library provision.
The consultation will run from July to October 2023 and will coincide with Aberdeen Reads, the library summer reading challenge, summer community galas and events, and with the start of the new term of school, Further and Higher Education in August.
Communities, Housing and Public Protection Committee Convener, Councillor Miranda Radley, said: “Libraries are an essential service for those living in Aberdeen, and it is important that we continue to engage with our communities and stakeholders to improve our Library and Information Service.”
Vice convener Councillor Dell Henrickson said: “Our communities have evolved over the past 5 years and making sure that we can understand and support the needs of those using libraries both now and in the future.”
