As part of the ongoing Socio Economic Rescue Plan activity, Aberdeen City Council is supporting the launch of a series of free workshops to support the retail sector.
The ‘Retail Recharge’ innovation project is being managed and delivered by Business Gateway and will involve a series of online workshops, supported by a 1 to 1 adviser, aimed at retail businesses in the region.
The project will target Aberdeen City Centre and Aberdeenshire town centres, however it will be open to all retail businesses.
The goal of this project is to help retailers upskill as we look towards the recovery of the region.
The first event is on 1-February at 2pm and will focus on a guide to branding and marketing for retail business. The following topics are covered in the subsequent webinars which will take place throughout February and March.
• Great customer service
• Increasing sales
• Visual merchandising
• Digital advantage
Councillor Ryan Houghton, Convener of the Council’s City Growth and Resources Committee said: “The Council’s Socio-Economic Rescue Plan was our immediate response to the impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic on the city.
“It was pleasing that a number of those short-term supports have now become ‘business as usual’ for us as we begin to recover. The city has always been a location for enterprise and while the pandemic has had an adverse effect on new company formation, the start-up rate remains above Scottish averages.
“I am pleased that our existing Business Gateway service has been able to develop this new programme in response to the challenges we now face, particularly in the retail sector and city centre. Providing a direct support to these businesses will not only benefit them, but also contribute to getting new shops back into the city itself.”
The Socio Economic Rescue Plan was launched in 2020 in response to the Covid-19 crisis and to support people and organisations within Aberdeen with the impact of Covid-19 and to recover from the effects of the pandemic.
The plan is split into the themes of Business, People, and Place, consisting of 75 actions and aligns to the Local Outcome Improvement Plan (LOIP) strategic themes of Economy, People, Place.
