Councillors were today (Tuesday 21 March) appraised of the high standard of care services in Aberdeen highlighted in independent inspection reports.
The Education and Children’s Services committee was informed of the positive feedback from recent inspections undertaken by the Care Inspectorate of Aberdeen City’s Fostering Service, Adoption Service, Kingsfield Children’s Home, Marchburn Road Children’s Home and Gilbert Road Children’s Home.
Evidence from the inspections undertaken in late 2022 underlined the high quality of care provided by the Fostering and Adoption services with the majority of scores stating they were ‘Very Good’ across most indicators and ‘Good’ in the other instances.
Only a few minor ‘Recommendations’ were suggested where it was felt improvement could be made and these will be taken forward by the services within their continuous improvement planning.

Similarly, the inspections undertaken of the three registered children’s homes currently operating in Aberdeen were rated ‘Very Good’ across all categories.
Committee Convener, Councillor Martin Greig, said: “The Council and its partners have an extremely important duty to look after the young people in our care. We have to keep up the effort to provide the best possible home life to look after the wellbeing. The Care Inspectorate report gives reassurance about the level of support being given.”
Vice convener, Councillor Jessica Mennie, said: “I am really delighted with the outcomes from the Care Inspectorate reports including the recognition of the time and effort our Fostering and Adoption have put into supporting carers and helping families and children with the transition into care.”
