Dangerous trees to be felled on Deeside Way

A section of Deeside Way – the former railway line – and adjacent woodland area in Culter are to be closed from tomorrow so that felling operations can take place on dangerous trees.

The works are going to take place in the section from Pittengullies Brae to Culter Station and at Lovers Walk where the trees will be felled and replaced by a native shrub species to hold the bank together.

There is a local diversion route being signposted.

An Aberdeen City Council spokeswoman said: “The Deeside Way is a very popular walking and cycling route however the safety of people using it is a priority so these dangerous trees must be felled.

“We apologise for any inconvenience the closure may cause.”

The works were initially going to take place later in the year to avoid nesting birds however two trees on that Deeside Way section have recently come down, one in high winds, so the work is being brought forward for safety reasons.

The felling operations are due to be complete by the end of November.
