From 1 September, household garden waste will be accepted for free in one bin per household and will not require a permit. Permits will be required for a second or third bin, at an annual cost of £30 per bin.
Residents who do not have garden waste should keep their brown bin for recycling food waste, for which there is no charge.
Additional garden waste permits can be bought online, and anyone who requires support with their application can ask a friend, family member or support worker to act on their behalf. The permit system will run from Sunday 1 September 2024 until Sunday 31 August 2025.
Citizens can also phone our contact centre on 03000 200 292 for support or to make a telephone appointment for further support if needed.
Once the online application is accepted, permits will be posted within 21 days. Households are asked not to put their new permit on top of previous year’s as it will not stick. The new permit must stick directly to the surface of the brown bin.
Household brown bins should be used to recycle garden and food waste. The full list of accepted items is on the website.
