Beautiful snowglobes have appeared on the front of Aberdeen Art Gallery – drawn by pupils at two primary schools showing aspects of the city centre they love.
The festive projections are part of the Union Street Conservation Area Regeneration Scheme’s (CARS) education programme.
Primary five pupils from Gilcomstoun Primary School and Hanover Street Primary School attended workshops by local artist Gabi Reith of Small Stories on how place informs her design process.
The children, with Gabi and Aberdeen Urban Studies, visited Union Street and the Castlegate to draw from life, looking, listening, and discussing the areas. This resulted in each pupil designing their own snowglobe depicting their favourite places in the conservation area, together with words to describe how they feel about their city.
The 68 images are now being projected in animated form onto the front of the Art Gallery throughout the Christmas period.
Aberdeen City Council Education and Children’s Services Committee Convener Councillor Martin Greig said: “It is wonderful to see these brilliant drawings of our city centre being projected onto the side of the Art Gallery.
“The pupils at the two schools have done a great job at showcasing all the different aspects of the area, which has many fine and beautiful buildings.
“We hope people will enjoy seeing the snowglobes when they come in for their Christmas shopping or a visit to the Art Gallery.”
