Christmas in Aberdeen 2023

Nativity scene to bring festivities to Union Terrace Gardens

Aberdeen’s Christmas programme will continue on Monday (4 December) with a blessing service for the nativity scene in Union Terrace Gardens.

The Lord Provost of Aberdeen, Dr David Cameron, will welcome members of the public and local schools for the service on Monday at 10:30am.

The Lord Provost said: “The Nativity Scene serves as an important reminder of what Christmas is all about.

“Having the Nativity feature in Union Terrace Gardens will bring more festive cheer to the city centre.”

The service will take place in the lower gardens, with the Blessing Service taking place beside the arches.

The ceremony will be carried out by Aberdeen Churches Together, which is made up of multi-cultural religious groups from across the city.

Councillor Martin Greig will close the ceremony with a vote of thanks.

Popular Christmas carols including O Little Town of Bethlehem and Away in a Manger will be sung by local school children.

The Nativity scene will be open daily until 5 January 2024.

Some of the arches in Union Terrace Gardens – which reopened this year after a major refurbishment – will be lit and decorated in a Christmas theme.

The Christmas Crib Blessing Service is just one of many events happening this year over the festive period. For more information, visit our website.
