A ceilidh celebrating Burns Night took place on Saturday morning for those in the Northfield community.
The Northfield Community Ceilidh, hosted at Manor Park Primary School, is the first of 3 monthly events happening in Northfield hosted by the Community Learning and Development Family Learning Team and is funded by the Northfield Partnership Forum.
Aberdeen City Council Co-Leader Councillor Christian Allard said: “We are committed to supporting local communities and groups across Aberdeen and ensuring that all individuals and families are able to access support.
“Having events that the whole family can get involved in is hugely beneficial to boosting local community spirit and I would encourage everyone in Northfield to get involved in future events.”
“As Burns’ himself said, “We hae meat and can eat, and sae the Lord be thankit.””
The Dark Island Ceilidh Band provided music for dancing, and were joined by stencil artist Bflabdn and Poet Ian Nimmo White.
The ceilidh was free for all in the Northfield community to attend and allowed for families to join in on a range of different activities including facepainting and arts and crafts.
JG Ross (Bakers) Limited provided breakfast for the attendees, as well as free food parcels being handed out by Cfine to those in need of support.
Burns Night is celebrated every year on 25 January in honour of Scotland’s national poet, Robert Burns.
The next event will take place at Heathryburn School on 10th February and will focus on mental health, offering a relaxed mindful session alongside storytelling sessions that all ages can enjoy, followed by a Celtic Celebration in March at Northfield Academy.
