Aberdeen City Council has received over 1500 responses already at the halfway point of the second phase of a public consultation that will help shape future spending decisions. The second phase of the two-part landmark consultation - which went live on Wednesday 11 October and closes on Sunday 12 November - asks the public to identify potential savings needed to balance the annual budget.
This is against a background of planning ahead for a funding shortfall of £83 million over the next four years as a result of the rising costs of delivering public services.
Phase 2 presents savings options drawn up by officers. The consultation also asks people to say how each these would affect them if taken forward.
Councillor Alex McLellan, Convener of the Finance and Resources Committee, said: “I would like to thank everyone who has taken part so far.
“It is important that as many people as possible take this opportunity to tell us what they think of the officer proposals around how to close the budget gap.
“I would encourage anyone who hasn’t taken part in the consultation to have their say before it closes on the 12 November.”
Council Co-leader, Councillor Ian Yuill said: “I am delighted so many people have taken part in the consultation so far.
“I hope even more people take part by Sunday 12th November so that councillors hear as wide a range of views as possible before setting the Council budget next year."
If you don’t have internet access at home, the consultation can be accessed at city schools, libraries and the Customer Service Centre at Marischal College, Broad Street, during normal opening hours.
Phase 1 of the consultation – which drew 3,192 responses during July – asked people to prioritise service areas for investment.
