£1 evening parking charge trial

Visitors to Aberdeen’s city centre can now park in council car parks for just £1 after 5pm.

The six-month trial was agreed as part of the Council’s Budget earlier this year.

The move is aimed at boosting footfall in the city centre where work is under way to transform the central section of Union Street.

Council Co-Leader Councillor Ian Yuill said: “Our city centre is open for business. There is so much to look forward to in our city centre over the summer, including the inaugural Festival of Sea. Aberdonians, visitors, and businesses can all benefit from this £1 evening parking initiative.

“The £1 charge after 5pm gives people even more reasons to visit our city centre in the evening.”

Councillor Alex McLellan, convener of the Finance and Resources Committee, said: “Aberdeen City Council committed to trialing £1 evening parking in city centre car parks to encourage people into the city centre for a six-month period.

“Aberdeen is very much open for business so I would encourage people to take advantage of the £1 parking scheme – as there is so much to do in our city centre.

“This scheme will, hopefully, provide a boost for businesses by increasing footfall as we move into the summer months.”

The £1 charge represents a saving of up to £4.80 on standard charges for three hours’ parking in the evening.

Normal charging rates resume from 8am.

A report on the six-month trial will be brought back to Council in due course.

The car parks are located on Virginia Street, the Gallowgate, Frederick Street, Summer Street, Chapel Street, West North Street, the Denburn, and Virginia Street.
