Scottish Youth Parliament Election 2023 – IMPORTANT UPDATE

The Scottish Youth Parliament Board has temporarily paused the 2023 Scottish Youth Parliament election due to the disruption caused by technical issues on the Young Scot voting site.

The technical issues have impacted voting activity only for those local authorities and voluntary organisations that were using the Young Scot site.  Votes cast from mobile devices have not been recorded accurately.

Trust in the validity of any election process is integral to everything that Aberdeen City Council’s Youth Work Team, which organises the Scottish Youth Parliament elections locally, has promoted across the original timeline with the candidates. The team agreed that pausing the election is the right decision at this moment in time.

The Youth Work Team understands that this will be disappointing to the young people who have taken part in the elections by voting for their chosen candidates and, more importantly, to those 11 young people who stood as candidates and have campaigned so hard.

The team is providing support to them through a positive engagement offer with Aberdeen Youth Movement
(AYM) and will be implementing the three R approach which will allow a time to reflect, reset and reengage.

Further information will be available in due course.

Information is also available on the Scottish Youth Parliament website and @OfficialSYP on social media.
