Strike Action Update

Unions representing members within waste and recycling services are planning to take industrial action in a national dispute over pay, which is likely to affect operations at a number of local authorities across Scotland in the coming weeks.

Unite are calling on members to strike from August 24-September 1, and the GMB from August 26-29 and September 7-10.

While Aberdeen City Council will work to minimise the impact of any action, it is possible that domestic and business waste collection services may be affected during this period. Details about potential disruption to waste collections and alternative arrangements.

Residents are asked to put their bin out for collection by 7am on their usual collection day and take it back if it is not emptied by the end of the day. Bins should not be put out again until the next scheduled collection day.

The Council will be keeping residents updated about all service impacts – which might not be known until the day – via its social media channels.

Please note that pay settlements for council workers are a matter for Scottish local authority body Cosla and determined through negotiations with unions at the Scottish Joint Committee, a process which is ongoing.
