The leases of the Inchgarth, Loirston Annexe, and Old Torry Community Centres have been extended after the move was approved at Aberdeen City Council’s City Growth and Resources Committee yesterday.
Councillors agreed the 10-year-term for the leased community centres be extended to 25 years for Inchgarth and Loirston, and 30 years for Old Torry.
Aberdeen City Council Co-Leader Councillor Ian Yuill said: “The extension of leases for the Inchgarth, Loirston Annexe and Old Torry Community Centres is great news for the communities that they serve - and for the city as a whole.
““These community centres, and the local volunteers who run them, make a real difference for the communities they serve. I have no doubt that they will continue their amazing work in the future.”
The move at committee comes as part of an agreement that funding for leased community centres.
Each of these community centres are wishing to improve and expand the use of their facilities, which were used as justification for their lease extensions. The improvements included:
- Inchgarth Community Centre management committee to build outdoor sports facilities and extend existing playpark space;
- Old Torry Community Centre Association - to meet long term needs linked to addressing poverty and multiple deprivation and promote and develop a diverse range of activities;
- Loirston Annexe Community Centre management committee -to extend and provide a wider range of facilities that can serve a growing and aging population.
