Young designers help Beach Park move forward

An exciting new park is set to transform Aberdeen Beach – thanks to the help of some of the city’s youngest citizens.

Councillors today approved plans for four themed zones – Sports, Adventure, Woodland and Coastal – with the entire play area designed in consultation with children and young people.

One of the highlights of the Adventure Zone will be an iconic Rope Factory, a large play structure that was the focus of school workshops.

A video highlighting the young people’s involvement was shared with councillors.

Co Leader, Councillor Ian Yuill, said: “The Beach Park with its themed zones and play areas has been designed together with Aberdeen’s children and young people. The amazing structures reflect their wonderful imaginations.

“I am certain that the striking Rope Factory in particular will be a huge attraction for children and young people.”

Councillor Alex McLellan, Convener of the Finance and Resources Committee, said: “These are exciting times for the city with the transformation of the city centre and beachfront leading the way in making Aberdeen an even more attractive place to live, visit and grow up.

“We have put what our young people want at the heart of the Beach Park plans and the result are the amazing designs – soon to become a reality – they have created in conjunction with our council officers and architects.”

Work is expected to start on an Events Park – a flexible performance space – and the enhancement of Broad Hill by the end of the year.
