Council vote paves way for potential Bon Accord Care integration

Bon Accord Care could potentially be integrated back into Aberdeen City Council following a vote by councillors today (Friday 03 November).

The possible benefits option appraisal was discussed in today’s Full Council meeting and elected members voted in favour of exploring these in more detail.

The Council’s Head of Commercial and Procurement Services, has been instructed to consult with the Managing Director of Bon Accord Care on the Outline Business Case.

Aberdeen City Council Co-Leader, Councillor Christian Allard, said: “These are early days as yet and we will continue to work with Bon Accord Care in developing an Outline Business Case.

“There is a number of factors to consider before a final decision is arrived at.”

Aberdeen City Council Co-Leader, Councillor Ian Yuill, said: “Today’s decision means the Council will look in more detail at reintegrating Bon Accord Care into the Council. Council staff will now work with Bon Accord Care on what its integration with Aberdeen City Council might look like.

“There will be no changes to the way Bon Accord Care delivers services until the Outline Business Case has been considered.”

Peter Murray, the Chairman of Bon Accord Care, said: “We are proud to deliver key adult social care services to the citizens of Aberdeen on behalf of Aberdeen City Council and we are fully committed to continuing this high-quality service to the people we support.

“At this point, these discussions are explorational and as a result there will be no changes to the way we deliver our services. We will keep our staff, as well as the people we support and their families, up to date as this option is explored further.”

The possible benefits of Bon Accord Care becoming part of the council structure will be detailed along with a possible timeframe for the integration of these services, in an Outline Business Case for consideration by Full Council in February 2024.
