Today marks the start of Climate Week North East (CWNE, 15 – 24 March), which features a series of free-to-attend events where citizens of all ages can learn what they can do to improve our environment.
Aberdeen City Council Co-Leader Councillor Ian Yuill said: “Climate Week North East is a chance for families to get involved, and for youngsters to learn about the benefits of being climate and nature positive. Climate change is happening now and is a threat to each and every one of us. We all have a part to play in minimising climate change.
“Tackling the climate-nature emergency not only affects the environment but also provides social and economic benefits for local people, our local economy, creates jobs, and benefits our mental health.”
Council led events taking place during CWNE include:
• Clean Up Aberdeen at Hazlehead Park between 12 and 2pm on 15 March, a volunteer litter pick.
• The Green City Family Fun Day at Hazlehead Park this Saturday, 16 March, where families can learn about local opportunities for enjoying the outdoors and find information on sustainable transport and ways to live a more eco-friendly life.
• A “From Plant to Plate” community growing event at David Welch Winter Gardens, Duthie Park, from 10:30-3pm on Sunday 24 March, featuring activities focused on food sustainability.
• Various events from Aberdeen Libraries, such as Bookbug sessions, and crafting and sculpturing events throughout the week.
All events are free to attend, although some require advance booking to secure a place. To see a full programme of Council-led events and booking information visit www.aberdeencity.gov.uk/cwne24
