War Memorial, Schoolhill

Aberdeen’s Remembrance Sunday event will take place on Sunday 10 November with a military parade, civic procession and wreath laying ceremony at the War Memorial, Schoolhill.

The military parade will form up on Back Wynd and will set off at 10.35am and head to the War Memorial, Schoolhill. They will be joined shortly afterwards at the War Memorial by the Civic Procession, led by the Lord Provost of Aberdeen Dr David Cameron.

At 10.50am the Armistice Service of Remembrance and laying of the wreaths will commence at the War Memorial conducted by Rev. Tanya Webster. There will be a 2 minute silence at 11am.

The public, who are welcome to attend, are requested to remain behind the safety barriers that will be in place for the duration of the event. Stewards will be in attendance to ensure that, as far as possible, pedestrian corridors are maintained for those passing by.

A Service of Remembrance conducted by Rev. David Stewart, will also be taking place from 10.50am at the Kirk of the Saint Nicholas. The public are welcome to attend.

Road closures

Roads closures on the following roads will commence from 9.30am and will be lifted by 12.30pm:

  • Schoolhill, from Back Wynd to Blackfriars Street,
  • Blackfriars Street
  • Back Wynd
  • Gaelic Lane
  • Belmont Street
  • Little Belmont Street.

Union Terrace and Union Street are not affected by these road closures. Access to Harriet Street Car Park closes from 9.30am and will be reopened by 12.30pm.
