Music service frequently asked questions

Here are some frequently asked questions about music tuition. Click on a question to see the answer.

You can request music tuition on our website. This will then be processed and added to the instructors waiting list. Some of our waiting lists are very full so it may be some time until you are offered a place and there may be instances where a place is not available. We also cannot offer all instruments in each school. If we do not have your chosen instrument, we will try and email to let you know what else is on offer. You can make more than one request per child for an alternative instrument.

The service will send an email with all the information if you are offered a space. Once this is completed, the instructor will be notified and be in touch with your child regarding their first lesson. You have 10 working days to accept the invite for lessons sent to you.  If you do not accept the place and we have not heard from you, your child will then go back to the bottom of the instructor’s waiting list.  No exceptions will be made.  Please follow all the steps in the email to sign up for lessons. This needs to be completed every year for every child, regardless of if they are a new or current student.

On our registration form, there is a box to tick if you wish to loan an instrument from the service. We do not loan pianos or drum kits. There are terms and conditions to agree to and the instrument will be the responsibility of the pupil while in their possession.  It should not be left in school overnight or during the holidays. Instruments are not permitted for use other than lessons with the service or ensembles and concerts.

No. The service offers only one instrument per pupil.

This should be done by using our online form. Once completed the instructor will be notified and lessons ceased.

Please return your instrument directly to the Music Instructor.  Failure to do this within 14 days of your lessons ceasing will result in you receiving an invoice for the cost of the instrument.

If your child has missed 3 consecutive lessons, lessons will cease. You will be sent an email and required to return any instrument to the instructor.

Please email musicservice@aberdeencity.gov.uk if you would like to ask any other questions related to Music Lessons. The instructors will keep in touch via Google Classroom.  Any updates will be posted there.  Please also check out our social media accounts on Facebook, Instagram and our own website for news and some performances by our students!
