June 2023 - September 2023
Due to health and safety reasons and the need to avoid clashes in working spaces on the project, ACCIONA is maintaining the night shift work pattern. The works include testing, cladding, punch list items and working in the upper enclosure and will remain in place until 31st August 2023.

November 2022 - January 2023
ACCIONA is continuing with a night shift to ensure the safety of workers and avoidance of interfaces between companies. This work is required to enable 24 hour testing. The project team can be contacted on 07470 556592 for any issues relating to the works. The works will continue until the end of December.
March 2022 - October 2022
ACCIONA is continuing with a night shift to ensure the safety of workers and avoidance of interfaces between companies. This work is limited to Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) and Chemical Cleaning. The project team can be contacted on 07470 556592 for any issues relating to the works. The works will continue until 31st October 2022.
November 2021 - March 2022
ACCIONA is continuing with a night shift to ensure the safety of workers and avoidance of interfaces between companies. This work is limited to installation activities such as pipes, supports, cable pulling and termination and balance of plant equipment installation. The works will continue until 31st March 2022.
September 2021 - November 2021
Due to health and safety reasons and the need to avoid clashes in working spaces between companies on the project, ACCIONA is maintaining a night shift work pattern. This work is limited to smaller installation activities with small steelwork erection and radiographic (non-destructive) testing and will remain in place until 31st October.
August 2021
Due to health and safety and the avoidance of interfaces between companies ACCIONA is maintaining a night shift work pattern. This work is limited to smaller installation activities with small steelwork erection and radiographic (non-destructive) testing and will remain in place until 31st August.
June 2021
ACCIONA is continuing with a night shift to ensure the safety of workers and avoidance of interfaces between companies. This work is limited to smaller installation activities such as handrails and grating and small steelwork erection. This extension is made until the 30th of June.
May 2021
During the period 3rd May – 16th May the civil contractor will work a night shift to complete a large underground tank. The works need to be complete to allow access to another contractor when space is limited during the day. As the works are underground, the noise will be limited. In addition, noise protection measures will be installed and tool restricted.
April 2021
Due to the duration of concrete pouring of the tipping hall, concrete floating (polishing) of the concrete will take place during the evening and into the early hours of the 19th & 21st of April. Ride on power floats are used which slowly move around the slab to achieve the required finish. Noise barriers will be erected to minimise any disturbance.
29th March 2021
Towards the end of March, the silos for the flue gas cleaning system will be installed. The silos store the raw materials to be used in the treatment of the flue gases and the resulting treated residue which will then be taken from site for further processing. There are five silos in total. The tallest silos will each reach approximately 27metres above the ground once fully erected. The silos will ultimately be enclosed within the building shell and not visible from outside.
Works will commence installing handrail and platform gratings on the night shift to avoid clashes with safety exclusions zones associated with lifting operations during the day. Approximately 10 operatives will work with hand tools and the crane used to lift the materials will be blocked with noise shielding panels.
12th November 2020 Update
As the slipform nears completion, the next step requires the platform to be removed from the top of the concrete. This will take place on both day and night shifts (night shift only Mon-Fri) until complete. We expect this work to be complete by 30th November. This is to ensure the platform is removed safely and to avoid clashing with other works on site as it is a high-risk lifting operation. There will be a small team of people working with hand tools and one crane to minimise any disturbance from the work which is being completed during the night.
27th November 2020 Update
Due to the proximity of our civil and mechanical erection contractors working at both height and ground floor level, which causes a significant safety issue during the period from 30 November to 22 December, there will be a continuation of seven day working, of both day and night shifts in order to mitigate these safety clashes. Night works will consist of hand tools to minimise any disturbance from the work to the local community.
22nd October 2020 Update
On the 23th October 2020, the second boiler slab pour will take place, starting at 6am. This concrete pour is smaller than completed previously and we aim to complete in the late afternoon. As before, noise screens will be erected around the concrete pumps to reduce the noise impact and we have increased the equipment available to reduce the time required to complete the pour.
11th September 2020 Update
During the weekend of the 12/13th September and the 19/20th September works to complete the piling is required to be conducted. These works will enable the piling to move out of the way of the incoming contractor and ensure that the two packages of work will not clash and cause a safety issue. The works involve the piling that has been conducted since January and involves the drilling of the ground to remove soil and then place concrete in the hole. It is intended to commence these operations from 0800hrs on each day until 1900hrs at the latest. Not all the days will work this late and not all days will be required.
18th September 2020 Update
The works previously notified for this weekend involving piling have been completed during the week and will therefore not be going ahead.
Works being required to be completed on weekends of 19-20th and 26th-27th September between the hours of 08.00 – 16.00 are to break out piles to construct the foundation slabs. The proximity of these works to other works causes a safety issue. A number of noise reduction strategies have been applied during this time to reduce the sound and impact on the local community.
30th September 2020 Update
On the 2nd October, the first major concrete pour of the project will take place. This involves the placing of over 900m3 of concrete in a short time to ensure that the foundations are solid and to the required standard. As a result the concrete pouring will commence slightly earlier than the normal time at 0600hrs but may run into the evening. We are maximising the number of concrete pumps available and maximise the number of concrete trucks delivering concrete to shorten the time and impact in the evening. Noise screens will also be erected around concrete pumps to reduce sounds heard from site. We expect this to happen on at least two other occasions during the next few week as the boiler slab is progressed. Dates will be notified nearer the time.
