Aberdeen City Council’s Returning Officer today (Friday 6 May 2022) thanked staff, candidates, election agents and all those connected for their help in delivering the 2022 local government (council) elections.
A total of 45 councillors in 13 wards were voted in after polling day yesterday and a day of counting at P&J Live (TECA) today.
About 500 people were involved in supporting the Aberdeen City election, including polling staff at the city’s 70 polling places and 133 polling stations, transportation of ballot boxes to P&J Live on Thursday evening, and election and venue staff at the count.
Aberdeen City Council’s Returning Officer Fraser Bell said: “It’s a huge undertaking to run an election. And so I would like to thank everyone involved in the many months of planning and the ultimate delivery of the election today.
“Everyone’s care, diligence, and professionalism ensured that voters were able to participate safely and with confidence.
“Again, we shared our count venue with our colleagues in Aberdeenshire Council at the outstanding P&J Live and my thanks to the teams who helped to ensure the process ran smoothly.
“It’s always a privilege to see democracy in action. Local government plays such an important role in everyone’s lives and so it is important that we fully engage with the democratic process. My thanks to all who participated in this year’s election.”
