Ahead of the AJ Bell Tour of Britain Grand Depart and Getabout Aberdeen Cycling this weekend, Aberdeen City Council are pleased to announce the return of the Getabout Hidden Item Competition this Saturday.
Getabout branded items, or items related to cycling, have been hidden in 15 shop windows around Aberdeen City Centre for people of all ages to find and mark as found on forms in a treasure-hunt style challenge.
Participants will be able to enjoy a free scoop of ice cream as a reward for finishing the treasure hunt from the Mackie's 19.2 shop in Marischal Square.
Once all items are found, there is an opportunity to enter a prize draw to win one of four vouchers worth £250 to use in local bike shops.
Aberdeen City Council Education Convener, Councillor Martin Greig, said: “The treasure hunt adds some extra fun and adventure to the cycling festival.
“Solving the puzzle is a splendid way to get involved in this important local and international sporting event in our city. I wish good luck to all who take part in the challenge.”
Aberdeen City Council Education Vice Convener, Councillor Jessica Mennie, said: “This is a fantastic activity for people of all ages, young and old, to take part in and enjoy.
“It’s wonderful to see so many businesses across the city showing their support for the Tour of Britain and Getabout Aberdeen Cycling Festival and help build excitement.
Forms can be found and returned at the Getabout stall on Union Street, and will run until Sunday 4th September, when the AJ Bell Tour of Britain Grand Depart leaves from Aberdeen.
Businesses across the city centre have also been showing their support for the Tour of Britain and Getabout Aberdeen Cycling Festival by dressing their windows with a cycling design or theme.
Postcards showing ToBi the Tour of Britain mascot visiting key locations around the city have also been left in shops and businesses for people to find, keep and collect.
The Getabout Aberdeen Cycling Festival will be held in Aberdeen on Saturday 3rd September where people can enjoy free activities for the whole family to enjoy including a bungee trampoline and the Clan Cycle Stunt Show.
Cycle races will also happen throughout the afternoon at both senior and junior levels and will include the Corporate Race and the Scottish Criterium Championships.
The weekend continues Sunday 4th September with the AJ Bell Tour of Britain Grand Depart and marks the furthest north that this prestigious cycling competition has ever departed from and will finish 180-kilometres (112-mile) later at the Glenshee Ski Centre.
