Aberdeen set to bring in the New Year in style with the return of Hogmanay celebrations

Residents and visitors alike are invited to bring in 2023 with the return of the ultimate Aberdeen Street Party, the first to held since 2019, featuring some of The Killers greatest hits from tribute act The Kopycat Killers.

Three top-class acts will perform live on stage at Schoolhill from 8.30pm, entertaining the crowds before a talented Scottish piper will end the evening by piping in the New Year, featuring an on-stage fireworks display.

First to perform at the free, non-ticketed event will be local Northsound 1 DJ Jeff Diack – a star of their Breakfast show, as one half of Jeff and Lauren in the morning. Jeff will entertain the crowds with some of his favourite party tunes from 8.30pm to get the party started.

Next on stage will be Silver City Soul Revue, a 10-piece soul band based in Aberdeen, who have made a name for themselves both locally and nationally since forming in 2017.

The Kopycat Killers will bring the music entertainment to an end just before the countdown to the New Year begins.  The Kopycat Killers are the ultimate Killers tribute act, having performed their greatest hits – which include Somebody Told Me and Human – at headline events up and down the country.

Aberdeen Lord Provost Dr David Cameron said: “There is always a great atmosphere in the city centre on Hogmanay. Our free street party is an excellent way to bring in the bells.

"I am delighted that this event is returning to our festive events line up after having to be cancelled the last two years.  The entertainment on offer will ensure a party atmosphere for all to enjoy as we bid farewell to 2022 and welcome in 2023.”

Aberdeen City Council encourages everyone attending to remember some simple pieces of advice to help ensure everyone enjoys their night out: wrap up warm, agree somewhere to meet in case you get separated from friends, do not bring large bags, and drink sensibly.

New for this year will be an event bar selling a limited selection of wine, beer, spirits, soft drinks, tea and coffee .

Event admission will be on a first come basis and the only entrance to the event is via Schoolhill at the junction of Back Wynd and Harriet Street.  You are permitted to bring your own food and drinks, including alcohol, however, please do not bring glass containers, including glass bottles . Please also do not bring your own fireworks.
